Products Description

REF620 IEC feeder protection and Measurement and control devices, as dedicated feeder protection devices, are designed specifically to protect, control, measure and monitor public and industrial power grids, including radiant, annular and reticulated power grids. The REF620 provides feeder overcurrent and ground fault protection, which can be applied to neutral ungrounded networks and resistance or impedance neutral ground networks. In addition, the REF620 can also be used for annular mesh distribution network or radiation network protection, utilizing the device’s advanced interstation communication capabilities.

REF620 IEC feeder protection and measurement and control devices are available in single and double bus configurations, with one or two circuit breakers and multiple switching devices optional for each bus configuration. The device supports a large number of manual and electric disconnecting switches and ground switches. The amount of available I/O can be increased as required by ABB’s RIO600 remote I/O device.

REF620 IEC feeder protection and measurement and control devices feature support for substation IEC61850 communication standards and cover vertical and horizontal communication, including GOOSE messages with switching and analog signals, and setting based on IEC 61850-8-1. The REF620 also supports DNP3, IEC 60870-5-103, and Modbus® protocols. The REF620 provides an alternative Ethernet port for delayless redundant Ethernet or a loop-network self-healing RSTP communication in the event of a communication failure via PRP or HSR protocols. This solution eliminates the impact of single point of failure and improves communication reliability. The solution can be applied to Ethernet-based IEC 61850, Modbus® and DNP3 protocols.
