What is 10GBASE-T?
10GBASE-T (10-Gigabit Copper) is an Ethernet specification that uses copper cables connected by twisted pair cables. It corresponds to the IEEE 802.3an standard published in 2006 and enables 10Gbit/s transfers over unshielded or shielded twisted pair cables (super Class 6 or above) over distances of up to 100m.
In general, 10GBASE-T technology has two significant features for network construction:
1. When we deploy 10GBASE-T technology in the network, traditional infrastructure (such as network cables, distribution frames, etc.) can still be used;
2. 10-gigabit copper cable (10GBASE-T) can be connected with high-density 10-gigabit switches, providing an economical and efficient 10G interconnection solution.

Advantages of 10GBASE-T
Why has 10GBASE-T been so widely used since its introduction? That’s because it has several advantages:
Backward compatibility: The 10GBASE-T standard is an interoperable technology that works with existing gigabit Ethernet switches (typically paired with Cat6a or Cat7 network jumpers) to easily upgrade to 10G networks while reducing cabling costs.
Low latency: As we all know, 1000BASE-T generally has a latency of sub-microseconds to more than 12 microseconds, while 10GBASE-T has a latency of more than three times lower than 1000BASE-T due to its large data throughput, between about 2 microseconds and 4 microseconds.
Easy to use: The maximum transmission distance of a 10-gigabit copper cable (10GBASE-T) link is 100 MB, which is enough to support almost all data center topologies. You can also flexibly manage copper cables using distribution frames, effectively improving rack/cabinet space utilization.
Low cost: used for system wiring, super class six network cable is usually cheaper than the same length of fiber jumper, such as rapid (FS)1m PVC super class six network cable price is at least 13 yuan, and 1m PVC multi-mode OM1 fiber jumper price is at least 16 yuan. In addition, the copper cable consumes no power, has good heat dissipation, and has relatively low maintenance cost. Therefore, using 10GBASE-T can greatly save the operating cost of the data center.
