The generator differential protection in the REG670 adaptedto operate correctly for generator applications where factorsas long DC time constants and requirement on short trip timehave been considered.
As many of the protection functions can be used as multipleinstances there are possibilities to protect more than oneobject in one lED.It is possible to have protection for anauxiliary power transformer integrated in the same lED havingmain protections for the generator. The concept thus enablesvery cost effective solutions.
The REG670 also enables valuable monitoring possibilities asmany of the process values can be transferred to an operatorHMI.

Forcing of binary inputs and outputs is a convenient way totest wiring in substations as well as testing configuration logicin the lEDs. Basically it means that all binary inputs andoutputs on the lED l/O modules (BOM, BIM, IOM & SOM) canbe forced to arbitrary values.
Central Account Management is an authenticationinfrastructure that offers a secure solution for enforcingaccess control to lEDs and other systems within a substationThis incorporates management of user accounts, roles andcertificates and the distribution of such, a procedurecompletely transparent to the user.
The Flexible Product Naming allows the customer to use anlED-vendor independent lEC 61850 model of the lED. Thiscustomer model will be exposed in all lEC 61850communication, but all other aspects of the lED will remainunchanged (e.g., names on the local HMl and names in thetools). This offers significant flexibility to adapt the lED to thecustomers’system and standard solution.
Communication via optical connections ensures immunityagainst disturbances.
By using patented algorithm REG670 (or any other productfrom 670 series) can track the power system frequency inquite wide range from 9Hz to 95Hz (for 50Hz power system)In order to do that preferably the three-phase voltage signalfrom the generator terminals shall be connected to the lED.Then lED can adopt its filtering algorithm in order to properlymeasure phasors of all current and voltage signals connectecto the lED. This feature is essential for proper operation of theprotection during generator start-up and shut-downprocedure.
REG670 can be used in applications with the lEC/UCA61850-9-2LE process bus with up to eight merging units (MU)depending on the other functionality included in the lED.
