RED615 is a phase-segregated, two-end, line differential protection and control relay for protection, control, measurement and supervision of overhead line and cable feeders in utility and industrial power distribution networks, including radial, looped and meshed distribution networks, with or without distributed generation. RED615 is also ideal for line differential applications with an in-zone transformer. RED615 relays communicate between substations either over a fiber-optic link or a galvanic pilot wire connection.

RED615 Line differential protection relay

RED615 line differential protection and measurement and control device is a split-phase, double-ended line differential protection and measurement and control device designed for public and industrial distribution systems. It perfectly coordinates overhead lines and cable feeders for public and industrial distribution networks, including systems with distributed generators.

RED615 features support for the substation IEC61850 communication standard, covering vertical and horizontal communication, GOOSE messages with switching signals and analog signals, and fixed setting based on IEC 61850-8-1. In addition, RED615 supports Modbus®, DNP3, and IEC 60870-5-103 protocols.

The RED615 line differential Protection and measurement and control unit provides two-phase line differential protection, overcurrent protection, negative sequence overcurrent protection and circuit breaker failure protection. According to different standard configurations, the RED615 can also expand the thermal load protection, directional or non-directional grounding protection, sensitive grounding protection, phase break protection, intermittent grounding protection, negative sequence overvoltage protection and multiple automatic reclosing functions in addition to the basic functions for the protection of overhead feeders.

In addition, the admittance ground protection can effectively reduce the influence of fault transition resistance, improve sensitivity and ensure the correctness of direction judgment. The differential protection function of the line includes ratio brake section and quick acting section. For example, when the current transformer is saturated, the ratio brake section provides sensitive differential protection and maintains stability during operation. In the power transformer outside the region, the second harmonic suppression ratio can be used for the brake section action, and the quick acting section provides fast action in the case of serious regional faults.
