The use of case vibration sensorsis discouraged for monitoringsleeve bearing machines since thevibration produced by shaft motionor position is greatly attenuatedthrough the bearing oil film.The ideal method of monitoringshaft position and motion is bymounting a non-contact eddysensor through the bearing, orinside the bearing, measuringthe shaft motion and positiondirectly. The PR 6423 is commonlyused to measure vibration ofmachine shafts, eccentricity, thrust(axial displacement), differentialexpansion, valve position, and airgaps.
