In our actual control projects with PLC as the core, the vast majority of cases cannot be separated from the touch screen or the upper computer, because we use PLC for control, the main thing is to deal with some analog quantities, these analog quantities are we want to monitor, the pressure on the equipment, temperature, flow and other values, and then through these detected values, Then according to some conditions to control the electric valve on the equipment, fan, water pump and so on. But these values we can not see directly from the PLC, want to see these values, you have to use a touch screen or industrial computer (in fact, a computer).

First of all, it needs to be explained that this article only describes the general working principle and process of the touch screen, not to teach you how to use the touch screen step by step (I will write the actual operation of the article later), I think before using and operating the touch screen, to understand its principle and work process is more important.

As shown in Figure 1 below, when we connect the touch screen with the PLC, we can see the data we want to see on the touch screen. In addition to data, it can also control various controlled objects on the field device through the touch screen. For example, we configure a switch on the touch screen, and as long as we click this switch on the touch screen, we can start a motor on the field equipment.

What is the principle of communication between the touch screen and the PLC? Look at Figure 2 below, this is a real touch screen front and back, the front needless to say, is the display surface. Look mainly at the back, there are three interfaces.

1, power interface: The touch screen power supply, most of the voltage is DC24V. The parameter labels of the touch screen are indicated.

2, configuration download interface: we use the configuration software provided by the touch screen manufacturer to design the screen and functions we want on the computer, and download it to the touch screen through this interface. Each touch screen manufacturer has its own software, which is not universal, but it doesn’t matter, the principle is the same, as long as you learn one, the other as long as you are familiar with the software interface.

3, communication interface: This interface is used for communication with PLC, the form of the interface is mainly divided into RS232, RS485, Ethernet these 3 kinds (do not understand what is 232 and 485 can see my previous article, there is a special introduction), it should be noted here that the form of this interface must be the same as the form of PLC interface. The touch screen brand in Figure 2 is Kunlun Tongtai, and its interface is RS485, so when it is connected with PLC, the interface of PLC must also be RS485.
