The IC698CRE020 CPU is a redundancy central processing unit by GE Fanuc and the RX7i PACSystems PLC series. It is made for easy upgradeability, high processing speeds, and a large memory capacity. It is easy to expand RX7i PACSystems PLCs that include the IC698CRE020 CPU because it is possible to upgrade these PLCs without disturbing the existing wiring, these systems can accommodate older GE Fanuc devices such as devices from Series 90-70, they support most Genius networks, and they can convert Series 90-70 programs to upgraded versions and convert Logicmaster and VersaPro applications to Machine Edition applications. The IC698CRE020 CPU supports an Ethernet interface that allows the users to monitor the PLC from a web browser.

The GE Fanuc IC698CRE020 redundancy CPU can also communicate through its 3 isolated serial ports which are an RS-232 port, an RS-485 port, and an Ethernet station manager port that is also an RS-232 port. There is also an Ethernet port that consists of dual RJ-45 ports that are connected by an auto-sensing switch. This RJ-45 Ethernet port can upload data, download data, or be used for monitoring purposes. However, the Ethernet dual ports should never be connected to the same device or duplicate packets may be unintentionally created. The IC698CRE020 CPU comes with 10 MB of available user memory and its processing speed is 700 megahertz. It is a Pentium CPU. The IC698CRE020 CPU should be installed with a fan tray to prevent overheating, and it can operate properly in a temperature range of 32 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
