The IC697CPX935 is a Single-Slot PLC CPU with three built-in serial ports manufactured by GE Automation and Controls. It is capable of performing real-time control of systems. Using VMEC.1 format, the IC697CPX935 can communicate with different “smart option” modules via a backplane mounted on the rack. This device is operated via a three-position run/stop control switch or by a connection to a computer running appropriate software.

A 96MHz microprocessor allows this device to perform floating point calculations every 0.4 microseconds. Any mixture of 12K I/O and up to 8K analog I/O is supported by this device. The IC697CPX935 supports the following modules: the entirety of the IC697 family of discrete and analog I/O modules, programmable and alphanumeric display coprocessors, IC660 and IC661 bus controller modules, link and LAN interface modules, and communication modules.

One megabyte of on-board RAM memory is supported, which is maintained by a IC697ACC701 battery. Flash memory (NVRAM) is also supported with up to 256 kilobytes available for user data. System firmware is stored in flash memory. Disassembling the device or replacing the EPROM is not necessary for updating the firmware.

The IC697CPX935 is configured via a connected computer running MS-DOS or software applications in Win 95 or Win NT. Connection to this programmer computer is possible via a serial, parallel, or Ethernet interface. No Dual Inline Package (DIP) switches or jumpers are necessary. Operational settings are secured by a software password on the programming computer or a memory protect switch on the device itself.

To maintain a safe operational temperature in environments greater than 50 Celsius or 122 Fahrenheit, this device will require installation of a cooling fan with a minimum capability of 70 cubic feet per minute.

Refer to the product manual for proper installation instructions. Power to the rack should be off. Place the operational control switch in the stop position. The memory protect switch should also be off. The lithium battery may be inserted into either connector. Connect the IC697CPX935 to the rack. Restore rack power.

The IC697CPX935 central processor unit or CPU is a GE Fanuc CPU that has been designed and manufactured in GE Series 90-70. It is designed to control the functions and process the data in a GE Series 90-70 PLC system. It can communicate through a LAN or through a link interface module. The maximum microprocessor speed that the IC697CPX935 CPU is capable of is 96 Megahertz. This CPU can be programmed either with MS-DOS or with the Microsoft Windows 95 or NT operating system. A computer that is running these operating systems can be connected to the CPU to program it. It can support up to 12,000 input and output points in any mix. The serial communication ports that the IC697CPX935 CPU comes with are the RS 485 serial communication port and the RS 232 serial communication port.

 

The GE Fanuc Series 90-70 IC697CPX935 CPU is capable of controlling its PLC in real-time. The modules in the Series 90-70 line that it is best-suited for controlling are analog I/O modules, discrete I/O modules, alphanumeric display modules, and programmable display modules. Different kinds of network communication modules are also supported. The RAM in the IC697CPX935 CPU is battery-backed and the capacity of the RAM is 1 MB. The flash memory has a capacity of 256 KB and this flash memory is primarily used for storing the user data and the system data. The IC697CPX935 CPU supports an Ethernet interface. Its maximum rated operating temperature is 122 degrees Fahrenheit, and if the environment frequently experiences higher temperatures than this, the CPU will need to have a cooling fan installed.
