The IC697CPX782 module is a CPU module that is designed for use with the GE Fanuc Series 90-70 programmable logic controllers. In addition to 1 MB of battery-backed memory, the module also includes 256 KB of non-volatile memory. The IC697CPX782 module supports BMA in release 7.92 and later. The microprocessor on which the IC697CPX782 module is based is an 80486DX4 microprocessor with 96 megahertz of clocked speed. The I/O supported by the IC697CPX782 module include a maximum of 8000 analog I/O and 12,000 I/O in any mix. The rated time taken to process a single Boolean function is 0.4 microseconds. The IC697CPX782 module supports in-system firmware upgrades. The configuration of the module is performed through software running on computers which interface with the module over Ethernet or serial connections.

Connecting a programmer to the IC697CPX782 module via Ethernet requires the installation of an Ethernet interface module in the PLC. Connecting a programmer to the IC697CPX782 module via a serial port can be done through the 3 on-board serial ports. The protocols supports by the 3 ports are as follows: Port 1 supports RS-232 communication, and both Port 2 and Port 3 support RS-485 communication. Three of the 5 LED indicators on the module’s front panel provide the status of the serial port activity. A serial cable is required for interfacing with Port 1, and a converter is also required for Ports 2 and 3. The shelf life of the module battery is 5 years at 20 degrees Celsius. The IC697CPX782 module requires 3.1 Amps of nominal current from the 5 Volts bus. The recommended operating temperature range is from 0 to 60 degrees Celsius.
