The IC694CHS398 backplane is manufactured by GE Fanuc to be a serial expansion backplane. This expansion backplane can connect to the universal backplane in a GE Fanuc RX3i PLC to expand the PLC’s application capabilities and to allow it to accommodate a larger number of I/O modules than the universal backplane can accommodate on its own. An expansion backplane like the IC694CHS398 serial expansion backplane also allows a PLC system to include modules that need to be installed in a location separate from the universal backplane and its modules. The IC694CHS398 serial expansion backplane has 5 slots. It is made to be connected to GE universal backplanes that have 12 slots or 16 slots.

IC694CHS398 GE Serial Expansion Backplane

The GE Fanuc IC694CHS398 serial expansion backplane can support a maximum connector cable length of 50 feet. The leftmost slot in this expansion backplane is meant for hosting a serial expansion power supply. The power supply can be a regular power supply like the IC694PWR321 power supply that is rated at 120 to 240 Volts AC and 125 Volts DC, or it can be a high-capacity power supply like the IC694PWR330 power supply that is also rated at 120 to 240 Volts AC and 125 Volts DC. The modules that are installed on the IC694CHS398 serial expansion backplane should never be installed or removed while power is applied because this expansion backplane is not designed to support hot swapping. The maximum load capacity of the IC694CHS398 serial expansion backplane is 170 milliamps or 0.85 Watts at a voltage of 5 Volts DC.
