3500 Internal Barriers are intrinsically safe interfaces thatprovide explosion protection fortransducer systems connecteddirectly to the 3500 Machinery Protection System.
The internal barriers are fully compatible with the 3500 Systemand provide a convenient and cost-effective solution forinstalling all types of transducersystems within a hazardousarea.
We offer Bently Nevada transducersystems that havecomprehensive approvals forhazardous area installations.Thetransducersystems are matched to those of the 3500 InternalBarriers.Refer to Compatible Monitors & Transducers on page
Each component complies both individually and as part of asystem with the safety reguirements of North American andinternational standards. Hence,you don’t have to referenceindividual certificates to verify the compatibility betweencomponents.
Standard and internal barrier monitors can reside within thesame 3500 rack. You can upgrade standard monitors byreplacing existing l/O modules with those that contain internabarriers.

The lS Earth Module requires a dedicated l/0module position and precludes the use of thismonitorposition forother 3500 System modulesThis limits a standard 19-inch rack to 13 monitorpositions.Furthermore,a numberofinstallationoptions are not available when internal barriersare installed in a 3500 rack.
New Rack installations
The same rack can contain both internal barrierand standard l/0 module types withoutcompromising the separation between hazardousand safe area field wiring.
The ExternalTermination option is not availableforl/O modules with internal barriers becausehazardous area approvals do not allow the use ofintrinsically safe wiring within a multi-cored cableassembly.
Monitors that contain TMR rack options cannotuse internal barrierl/O modules since connectinga transducer to multiple l/O module inputs willcompromise the integrity of the lS system.
A rack that contains any internal barrier modulemust have a 3500/04-011S Earthing Module toprovide the Barrier Module lS earth connection.
