The Modicon 140CPS12420 is a power supply module manufactured by Schneider Electric for the Modicon Quantum automation platform. It is a 115 V/230 V AC – redundant module.  It is a safety module made for use in a Quantum Safety PLC. It is certified for use in SIL 3 applications.

The Quantum power supply has a unique purpose.  It is there to administer power to the system rack, and it is also present for squelching noise that would violate the system.  In a place where voltage can fluctuate and have surged, it also protects your system from possible overvoltage. The environmental conditions where this module functions can have electrical noise interference; these units can operate without external isolation transformers.

Occasionally, your system may have an unexpected power loss. If this happens to your automation line, the Modicon Quantum power supply module affords your system the time to make sure your system shuts down properly.

It does this making sure that safety is the highest priority along with procedurally allowing things to shut down in order. What can a power supply module do for you?  It converts the input voltage to managed + 5 VDC for whatever requirements you have for your CPU, the I/O units, and whatever communication modules you have installed on the rack.  When you only require low power on your system, you can and should use a standalone power supply module. A standalone power supply module is there to provide a 3 A current to your Quantum rack. What supply voltages are you able to use with the standalone power module?  They are available for 115/230 V~, 24 V, and 125 V ⎓ supply voltages.

How to use a 140CPS12420

The front panel of the Modicon unit has the model number and also a unit color code. Next, you will find a display block.  There is a removable hinged door to insert a customizable label.  There is a 7-way screw terminal block.
